Shire of West Arthur Responds to Local Fuel Shortages
The Shire of West Arthur is aware of ongoing fuel supply shortages affecting Darkan and surrounding areas and is working to support the community while engaging with relevant suppliers and authorities.
Shire President, Cr Karen Harrington, said Council understands the inconvenience and concern these shortages are causing for residents, businesses, farmers, and essential service providers.
“Fuel is critical to daily life in our community—particularly for farming operations, transport, emergency response, and health services,” Cr Harrington said. “While fuel supply chains sit outside the direct control of local government, the Shire is actively monitoring the situation and raising local impacts with relevant parties.”
The Shire encourages residents and businesses to use fuel responsibly during this period and to prioritise essential travel and operations where possible.
Cr Harrington acknowledged the professionalism of local fuel retailers and transport operators who are working under difficult circumstances to restore normal supply.
“Our local operators are doing everything they can in a challenging environment, and we thank them for keeping the community informed and supported,” she said.
The Shire is also conscious of the broader impacts on community safety and resilience.
“Fuel shortages highlight the vulnerability of regional communities to supply disruptions,” Cr Harrington said. “Council will continue advocating for more resilient supply arrangements for regional and rural areas such as ours.”
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local service providers and official Shire communications. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
