There are two current vacancies with the Shire of West Arthur.

Expressions of Interest - Acting Chief Executive Officer

The Shire of West Arthur invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the temporary appointment of an Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the period 13 July 2026 to 11 September 2026, while the substantive CEO is on approved long service leave.

Located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, 264 km from Perth (3hrs). The Shire covers an area of 2,834 square kilometres with its administration based in Darkan.

The Acting CEO will provide continuity of leadership, governance oversight and service delivery and will be accountable to Council in accordance with the Local Government Act 1995 (WA). The appointment will be offered on a temporary contract for the duration of the acting period.

During the appointment, the Acting CEO will be expected to progress the CEO’s key performance indicators set by Council; and undertake a specific task to observe, inspect and report to the CEO/Council on the Shire’s strategic financial management functions.

Truck Driver General Hand

The Shire of West Arthur has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Truck Operator/ General Labourer. In this role, you'll be working within the road construction and maintenance crews, carrying out various job duties, driving trucks and providing manual labour.

We are looking for:

  • Sound knowledge of the operation of trucks.
  • Proven experience driving trucks safely and productively.
  • Initiative, adaptability, and the ability to work independently, as well as within a team.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of work health and safety practices.

This position is offered at level 3 plus over award of 15% of the Local Government Industry Award 2020, depending on experience, with an opportunity to increase after twelve months. Other benefits include the opportunity for overtime, 76 hrs per fortnight (9-day fortnight), adverse working conditions allowance and up to 12% super, also available matching contribution of up to 3.5% for employee contributions.

The Shire provides a housing allowance pro rata of $60 per week for full-time employment positions. If required, subsidised housing is available.
