Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO)

Fixed Term Appointment – up to 5 years

Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 (depending on experience)

Package includes: Employer-provided vehicle (with personal use) and executive-style 4x2 house (rent-free).

The Shire of West Arthur seeks an experienced and motivated finance and corporate services professional to join a progressive, well-functioning Council and a friendly, capable administrative team.

This role offers a broad and rewarding portfolio across financial and administrative responsibilities and is an excellent career move for a local government finance professional seeking a clear pathway toward a future Director or CEO position.

Key responsibilities (indicative) include:

  • Leading and coordinating Shire’s financial management functions, including budgeting, reporting, controls and long-term financial planning.
  • Oversight of core corporate services functions, ensuring strong governance, compliance, and administrative performance.
  • Providing high-level advice and support to the CEO, Council and senior staff on corporate and financial matters.
  • Contributing to organisational improvement, efficient systems and a positive workplace culture.
  • Acting as CEO during periods of leave, as delegated.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in local government (or similar public sector environment), particularly in finance and corporate services.
  • Strong leadership capability, professionalism and sound judgement.
  • Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting/finance/business (CPA/CA highly regarded).

Commencement:

The preferred start date is as soon as possible after 30 June 2026.
