Firewood Collection in the Shire of West Arthur

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation, and Attractions (DBCA) manages public firewood collection across five districts in the Perth Hills and the South West. The Shire of West Arthur falls into the Wellington District. The closest public collection area to Darkan is the Bristol State Forest Block Collection Area. No permits are required unless you collect within a Disease Risk Area (DRA). You must contact the Wellington District Office for information about a DRA permit.

Selling Firewood Collected from Private Property
You must have a licence to sell, supply and store (for supply) firewood collected from private property, even if you are the landowner or have the landowner's permission.
Unlawful Taking or Sale of Firewood
The unlawful taking or sale of firewood may result in enforcement actions by DBCA, including penalties up to $2,500. Any person or company convicted faces penalties ranging from $50,000 to $250,000, and up to 12 months imprisonment.
