Open Letter to the West Arthur Community

Dear West Arthur Community,

On behalf of the Shire of West Arthur, I would like to thank everyone who assisted in the search for a much loved and deeply connected member of our community who was reported missing last Wednesday. Thankfully Jodie has now been found safe and well.

Resilience and strength are quite often terms that are associated with rural communities. And for good reason. These traits are evident in the people that show up when it matters the most.

The people who step up to take charge with their critical thinking and strategic skillset. The people that pull together, no matter what the circumstance. The people that wrap their arms around their community and offer what they can in the way of support. And most importantly a community that never gives up.

The number of volunteers who came forward is a powerful reminder of the spirit that defines West Arthur. A thank you is also extended to the Williams Police team and the broader community.

A significant event in the community can raise issues in different ways. If you need to speak with someone, please reach out to Southern Ag Care, which provides free, confidential counselling services across the Great Southern. They have made counsellors available and will arrange a time for any local residents who may feel the need for a professional debrief following the past week’s events.

Community members who wish to access this support can contact Southern Ag Care via:

The King family continue to be in everyone’s thoughts and well wishes. They have respectfully requested that the community continue to provide a level of space and privacy as they recover from what has been an extremely stressful period.

Thank you again to our wonderful community.

Cr Karen Harrington (Shire President)
