Shire of West Arthur – Burning Period Update
Prohibited Burning Time: 1st November 2025 to 3rd March 2026 (extended from 23rd February)
During this period, no fires are permitted in the open air. Penalty for non-compliance is up to a $10,000 fine, 12 months’ imprisonment, or both.
To report any fires, Dial 000 immediately.
Restricted Burning Period:
29th September to 31st October 2025
4th March to 13th April
During this period, conditions apply and permits may be required.
These dates are subject to variation depending on seasonal conditions. Any amendments will be publicly advertised.
Before lighting a fire, please ensure you:
- Check if a campfire is permitted.
If a Total Fire Ban (TFB) or local fire restrictions are in place, it is illegal to undertake any activity that could start a fire, including lighting a campfire.
- Check the Fire Danger Rating (FDR).
During the Restricted Burning Time, you cannot light a fire in the open air for camping or cooking on days when the Fire Danger Rating is High, Extreme, or Catastrophic.
- Assess local conditions.
If the weather is hot, dry, and windy, it is unsafe to light any fire — even if permitted.
If you see someone lighting a fire where they shouldn’t, please call 000 immediately so lives and property are not put at risk.
