Are you interested in serving on Council?

Local Government elections will be held in October this year. Elected members of a local council serve a very important role in ensuring the best outcomes for their community. Just like serving on a jury, being a councillor is a civic responsibility that all eligible community members should consider. The Shire of West Arthur will have 4 vacancies on Council at this election.

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has developed an online induction course to provide useful information to candidates for council. Note that completion of this course is compulsory before you can formally nominate. The course should take about 30 minutes to complete and can be found at:

I strongly urge you to consider completing this course, even if you are not 100% certain of your intentions yet. At the very least, you will gain a better understanding of the workings of local government.
