The Darkan Public Library is situated in the Health and Resource Centre (27 Burrowes St, DARKAN) and is administered by the West Arthur Community Resource Centre.
The library houses over 3,000 items and gives you access to all the following:
- Fiction and Non-Fiction books for adults and children
- Large Print books
- Local History books
- DVDs (Fiction and Non-Fiction)
- Audio books (Fiction and Non-Fiction)
- OverDrive eBook library (more details below)
- eReader for loan
- Kindle for loan
- Ancestry.com (Library Edition – free for use in the library for library members)
There are 12 exchanges per year with roughly 85 items in each exchange, so the content of the library is constantly changing.
A highlight of the West Arthur library collection is the West Arthur Herbarium which is housed in the Landcare Office. It is valued at over $50,000 and has been put together entirely by volunteers (mainly Val Crowley & Jan Smith) & with some support from the Western Australian Herbarium at Kings Park.
