PROPOSED LOCALITY BOUNDARIES AND NAMES IN THE SHIRE OF WEST ARTHUR
Revisions to the Proposed Locality Boundaries and Names map have been made, and a revised map will be circulated in late September for further public consultation. It is important that residents review this map as with the introduction of Rural Street Addressing, Australia Post will determine mail delivery services based on an addresee's rural street address locality and associated postcode.
As far as possible, the Shire will endeavour to bound localities that take into account the mail delivery service preference of residents and to reflect traditional locality identity.
A copy of the Proposed Localities and Names Map being put to Council at their meeting on 22nd November can be viewed as per the attached PDF.
RURAL STREET ADRESSING SYSTEM
The new rural street addressing system follows a national model. The aim is to supply a uniform address number to every rural and semi-rural property in Australia without cost to ratepayers. Numbered sign posts, clearly visible from the road, will be placed at each property
How it Works
The Department of Land Information (DLI) is responsible for assigning rural street numbers and has used existing resources, including aerial photography and legal boundaries to implement rural numbers. The DLI is working closely with the Shire and, at the same time as notifiying property owners of their new address, has notified the Police and Fire Services, the Federal and State Electoral Commissions, Wetern Power, Water Corporation, Alinta, Australia Post, Telstra, Main Roads WA and St John Ambulance.
Property numbers are based on the distance of the entrance to a property from the start of a road. Odd numbers are on the left, even numbers on the right. For example, the number 327 refers to a property on the left side of a road 3.27km from the road's beginning.
RMBs will be eventually phased out once the new rural street numbering is implemented. Australia Post will treat each RMB individually and will send advices of any changes prior to changes being made. Any questions regarding RMBs should be addressed direct to the Australia Post Hotline - phone 13 13 18.
