The Department of Communities has announced a new round of funding through the Community Gardens Grants Program.

Projects funded through the Program will support the establishment and development of community gardens in Western Australia and allow community members to:

  • Participate in community life more actively;
  • Connect with the environment and other people within their community;
  • Implement and develop their skills; and
  • Give back to the community.

Organisations may apply for funding of up to $10,000 per community garden project. Applications close in mid October.

The old bowling green in Darkan has been discussed as a potential site for a community garden for fruit and vegetables. The large water tank could be used to supply water from the town dam at a low cost. Possibly only using the lower green (green closest to Nangip Creek).

If any community members are interested in being involved in the establishment of a community garden on the site of the old bowling green please register your name with the Shire Office or the CRC

If there is enough interest, we will consult further with those interested.
